Mumit Talks - Clara Brea

For the creation of new jewelry collections, Mumit draws inspiration from trends and thousands of women from diverse fields and disciplines (such as the designer of Boüret or the artist Romel), thus creating unique and multi-styled designs that enhance and capture the story of any woman anywhere in the world.

In this new installment of Mumit Talks, we introduce you to bridal designer Clara Brea. An explosion of detail, well-executed work, and highlighting each client's best features are her main hallmarks. A fashion enthusiast, we spoke with her about her project, her life, her goals, and her dreams.

What pushed you to leave everything behind and start your own brand? Tell us more about your story.

I was very clear about it from the beginning. I had practically not finished studying fashion design when I embarked on my project, as you can imagine! My grandmother had a small fashion studio when I was little, and I grew up among patterns and fabrics. It all started when a friend of a distant friend decided to get married. We met in a coffee shop, and she told me her idea. At that moment, I started sketching ideas and asked my parents if I could use the garage at home to set up my little atelier.

What is your inspiration when creating? Tell us about your creative process and your favorite moment at work.

My clients are my inspiration—their way of being, their way of communicating. For me and the team, they are everything. Every bride is different, and therefore, every garment has to be unique. We always arrange a first meeting to get to know them, listen to them, and understand their story. That's my favorite moment when all the inspiration comes to me, and we start building the wedding dress from scratch.

How would you describe your clients? What do they look for in your brand?

They are women who love to feel identified with the garment, very feminine and subtle. They seek elegance and freshness in simplicity.

Starting from scratch is complicated. Have you felt supported or have you fought for your dream against the current? Currently, how many people are on your team?

Nothing is impossible if you fight for what you want. My three ingredients are enthusiasm, effort, and perseverance. Throughout my journey, I have always felt very supported by my family, but nothing would have been possible without the unconditional support of my mother. It has cost us a lot, but we have managed to build a team of six enthusiastic and hardworking women, including, of course, my mother and me.

When creating, I always get inspiration from my clients and everything they convey to me.

Do you think social media has been a key channel for boosting your business?

I 100% believe in social media; today, it is one of my fundamental channels for reaching future brides who identify with my designs. It's a very important platform for conveying my essence, but I also have to say that it's not easy to select the material you want to communicate.

What do you think about turning your hobby or passion into your job? What advice would you give to anyone thinking of starting a business?

For me, it's essential to dedicate myself to what I'm passionate about. It's complicated to start a business from scratch, and if you don't have passion for what you do, it's very difficult to sustain it over time. It requires a lot of dedication! My advice, and probably the secret formula, I believe, is to create something that excites you every day, including the bad days. Also, good planning and a good team are everything to balance personal and professional life—something very important! I feel very fortunate and remind myself every day that, despite everything, there would be no better job for me than the one I do.

How do you think jewelry and your work can relate?

I believe they both have the same essence; they are art. We always try to unify our designs and believe that jewelry complements each garment wonderfully to further enhance the styling. Both seek to transmit the soul of each person.

What is happiness to you? Do you still have any professional and personal dreams to fulfill?

For me, happiness is feeling fulfilled every day. Therefore, my professional dream is to continue making every bride happy through my work. As for a personal dream, I would highlight being able to start my own family; I recently got married, and that has always been one of my dreams.
