Mumit Talks - With Vanessa Datorre from Boüret

At Mumit, we are always inspired by thousands of women to create our designs: unique and multi-style jewelry that enhances and compiles the story of any woman anywhere in the world.

On this occasion, we introduce you to one of them: Vanessa Datorre from the firm Boüret, the woman who made Her Majesty Queen Letizia shine in one of her beautiful dresses. A successful Galician designer and entrepreneur, we talk to her about life, her story, her goals, and her dreams.

What made you leave everything behind and start your own brand? Did you feel dizzy? Tell us a little about your story.

It was a very natural step. After having worked for other brands, it was my turn to set up my own. And the truth is... I didn't feel dizzy at all! In the end, when starting a business, I think you need to be a little reckless. We started in 2010 in the middle of the crisis, in a first-floor apartment, and used social media as our storefront.

What inspires you when you create? What is your favorite moment at work?

I design every day; I have a large archive of old books and magazines, plus my other company, Basilisa Vintage, which helps me dissect the dresses of great designers. I mix vintage silhouettes with future trends, always adapting them to our present. If I had to pick my favorite moment, I'd say it's every day when I wake up; I'm very happy doing what I do.

Dressing Her Majesty Queen Letizia has been a dream come true.

Starting from scratch is complicated, especially in a sector like yours. Have you felt supported throughout, or have you fought for your dream against the current?

I don't expect to be supported... I'm content if entrepreneurs face as few obstacles as possible. I believe that good work takes you anywhere, and there's no point in complaining. Thanks to this philosophy, Boüret continues to grow. Currently, I have 4 direct employees in my A Coruña team and 5 dressmakers with their small workshops in Galicia.

Do you think social media has been a key channel for boosting your business?

Absolutely. As I mentioned earlier, we started in a first-floor apartment, using social media as our storefront. Without them, we wouldn't have gotten out of there.

I don't expect to be supported... I'm content if entrepreneurs face as few obstacles as possible.

What do you think about turning your hobby or passion into your job? What advice would you give to someone who is thinking of starting a business?

I believe everyone should choose the way of living that makes them happiest. Mine is that; I'm very happy making my job my hobby. I feel very fortunate and happy every day when I wake up. To new entrepreneurs, I would tell them to apply common sense to everything they do.

How do you think jewelry and Boüret can relate to each other?

Jewelry is vital for clothing; it always makes a difference. A good dress must always be accompanied by good jewelry like yours.

What has been your most special personal assignment or your most significant achievement to date?

Today, I would say that dressing Her Majesty Queen Letizia has been a dream come true and, at the same time, has put us on the national and international map. I would love to make Boüret a couture house valued worldwide, as much as French maisons are valued.

Where can we buy one of your designs?

You can buy through our website or at our own store in A Coruña, as well as at many other multi-brand points of sale in Spain, China, Saudi Arabia, and Guatemala (all of which can be found on our website).

What women inspire you? How would you describe your clients? What do they look for in Boüret?

I am inspired by self-made women, free, with personality, who don't try to imitate anyone, but create their own universe (something that is very much in line with Mumit's philosophy too). In that sense, my clients are everything; that's why they are the fundamental pillars of this dream. They are women who want to feel beautiful, like movie stars on their special days, enjoying every moment from trying on the dress to the big day itself.

A life motto and a song:

To live surrounded by beauty and freedom. One of my favorite songs is "My Way" by Sinatra.

What is happiness to you?

Hugs, tranquility, sunrise, laughter, and love.
